Winding is a crucial step in the production of prismatic and cylindrical cells, occurring after the vacuum drying of daughter rolls. In this process, electrode foils and two separator foils are precisely wound around a winding mandrel for prismatic cells or a center pin for cylindrical cells, following a foil sequence similar to stacking. The final wound product, known as a jelly roll, is secured with an adhesive strip to maintain foil alignment. Accurate positioning of electrode and separator foils is essential for quality, and the winding process is significantly faster compared to stacking, making it an efficient method for cell assembly.
