Overview

VORTEX HORIZONTAL PROFILER uses a box construction integrating the base, column, and table and a thermally symmetrical spindle/column construction with the headstock held on both the right and left sides to maintain consistent high machining accuracy. The tilting table repetition accuracy repeatability is within 13 μm (X / Y / Z directions). The table tilt system provides a 90° table tilt (table horizontal for setup, tilted 90° for machining). Table size for VORTEX HORIZONTAL PROFILER 160 is 157.48″ × 49.21″ and for VORTEX HORIZONTAL PROFILER 160 XP is 157.48″ × 62.99″, with a maximum workpiece dimension of 157.48″ × 62.99″ × 19.69″ and a table maximum loading weight of 6614 lbs. The large table capacity allows machining of large right- and left-hand components in the same machine setup. Maximum spindle speed is 26000 mm-1 (rpm) for the 160 and 30000 mm-1 (rpm) for the 160 XP. Machine specifications list the spindle output for the 160 as 45 kW (60 HP) (cont. rating) and for the 160 XP as 120 kW (161 HP) (cont. rating). Separate specification entries list a standard spindle output of 120 kW (160 HP) (cont. rating) with Torque (Cont. rating): 31 ft･lbs and a high torque spindle (option) with Output (Cont. rating): 120 kW (160 HP) and Torque (Cont. rating): 61 ft･lbs; the high torque spindle option is noted as optional only for VORTEX HORIZONTAL PROFILER 160 XP. The machine uses a powerful, high-speed built-in motor spindle intended to minimize vibration during high speed operation. Coolant through spindle is standard at 1.5 MPa (218 PSI) with optional higher-pressure systems at 3.5 MPa (508 PSI) and 7.0 MPa (1015 PSI), and headstock cleaning coolant nozzles on the top cover are standard. A compact, rotary type 2 table changer and large capacity tool magazine enable setup of the next workpiece during machining, and the Clean Coolant System removes more than 98% of particles larger than 10 μm (0.00039″) via a dedicated cyclone filter while the coolant tank is separated from the conveyor for quicker chip discharge. The VORTEX HORIZONTAL PROFILER is described as ideal for machining large aerospace aluminum components and specifically for aircraft structural components of wing systems such as wing ribs. Its large table capacity and tilting table allow machining of large right- and left-hand components in the same machine setup, with the table horizontal for workpiece setup and tilted 90° for machining to facilitate loading and changeover. The compact, rotary type 2 table changer and large capacity tool magazine support setting up the next workpiece during machining and long-hour automated operations.
