Model Overview & Specs

Overview

The Grinding System Discus Intensive is a horizontal disc mill development from NETZSCH, building on more than 40 years of horizontal disc mill experience and with over 4,200 machines in global use today. NETZSCH offers this mill family in sizes from 1 ltr to 15,000 ltr and in power ratings from 3 kW to 4000 kW. The Discus Intensive Rotor is a latest development based on the TetraNex and TetraNex Plus disc geometries and provides increased grinding efficiency, higher power input and production output while narrowing residence time distribution. The grinding tank inner pipe is made of NETZSCH-Ceram C for optimum product cooling and improved wear resistance, and the system incorporates a highly efficient centrifugal grinding media separation that permits grinding beads down to 0.3 mm and the use of beads of various densities. The design allows much higher flow rates without reaching maximum pressure, enables efficient recirculation and operation below the critical point of grinding bead compression for products with challenging rheological properties. Available models and typical parameters include LabStar (Grinding Chamber Volume (dm³): 0.95; Batch size (l): 1.5 - 5; Drive power (kW): 3; Typical throughput rate (kg/h): 5 - 50) and Discus 1000 (Grinding Chamber Volume (dm³): 1040; Batch size (l): > 2500; Drive power (kW): 355 / 400; Typical throughput rate (kg/h): 1400 - 14000), with intermediate Discus models (4, 15, 30, 60, 150, 200, 300, 500, 1200) listed with their respective Grinding Chamber Volume (dm³), Batch size (l), Drive power (kW) and Typical throughput rate (kg/h). Documented application areas for the Grinding System Discus Intensive include Agrochemistry, Printing Inks, Paint, Digital Inks & 3D Printing, Pigments / Dyes, Ceramics, Cocoa Liquor and Industrial Minerals. The system is presented for running highly viscous products at high flow rates, for effective circulation operation, and for products with specific energy requirements starting with, around, 100 kWh/t and higher. A provided customer example for water based paint shows stepwise improvements in single-pass throughput from about 60 kg/h to 400 kg/h following successive modifications including TetraNex geometry, NETZSCH-Ceram C liners, double conical spacers and optimized grinding media separation.
