Kelman TAPTRANS

Overview

Kelman TAPTRANS is an online condition-monitoring system for transformer on‑load tap changers and associated switchgear. It continuously captures operational events, change counts and time-sequence data and derives diagnostic indicators that describe mechanical operation, switching performance and emerging wear or failure modes. The system records time-stamped event logs and trending data to support root-cause analysis and maintenance planning. The unit interfaces to the tap‑changer control and to a range of sensor and electrical inputs to acquire mechanical and electrical signatures during each operation. It provides local and remote alarm/notification capability and transfers logged data to higher-level asset-management or SCADA systems using industry-standard substation communications. The hardware and firmware are intended for continuous industrial/substation operation and support firmware-level diagnostics, event export and archival for condition‑based maintenance workflows. Used by transmission and distribution utilities, large industrial power consumers and transformer asset managers to move from calendar-based to condition‑based maintenance for transformers with on‑load tap changers. Typical deployments include retrofits to existing transformers as well as integration on new builds to continuously monitor tap‑changer performance, detect sticking, slow operations, contact degradation and abnormal mechanical behaviour. Operationally, TAPTRANS is used to alarm on emergent faults, to provide detailed event records for post‑fault analysis, and to feed trending and health indices into asset-management systems so maintenance can be scheduled based on actual condition. It is deployed in substation control cubicles or local control rooms and configured as part of substation automation architectures for remote monitoring, diagnostics and preventive maintenance planning.
