Overview

Axio Observer 3 MAT/5 MAT/7 MAT includes encoded components that allow communication between the microscope, AxioCam camera, and ZEN core imaging software, keeping track of the objective, calibration, optical technique, tube lens, lighting parameters, and motorized X/Y stage parameters and coordinates. Full integration with ZEN core provides automatic scaling when changing objectives to ensure accurate measurements (D1m and Z1m only). The optical magnification range is 12.5-1500X, and an optional Optovar tube lens (1.25, 1.6, 2.5X) allows higher magnification up to 3750X. A 6-position objective turret offers 1.25 to 150X objective magnification without exchange, and low-position fine and coarse focus knobs are provided. The instrument features an apochromatic corrected Kohler illuminated light path, innovative contrast techniques including advanced darkfield and C-DIC, a photoport for digital, video or 35 mm SLR cameras, and an LCD that indicates objective magnification and lamp voltage. A sturdy mechanical X/Y stage has low position coaxial controls (left or right) with a minimum 130 x 85 mm range; illumination is provided by a 12 V/100 W halogen light source with built-in power supply, with mercury or xenon illumination available. The light manager stores illumination settings of each objective and contrast technique and recalls them automatically as each objective is positioned, and manual and motorized versions are available. The system supports imaging with digital, video, or 35 mm SLR cameras via its photoport and encoded communication with AxioCam and ZEN core. Full ZEN core integration provides automatic scaling when changing objectives for accurate measurements on D1m and Z1m configurations. The light manager’s automatic recall of illumination settings combined with advanced contrast techniques (advanced darkfield, C-DIC) and the sturdy mechanical X/Y stage with minimum 130 x 85 mm range make the instrument suitable for working with large or heavy specimens and for repeatable, objective-specific illumination setups.
