Overview

P64 MiCOM 5th Generation (P642, P643, P645) is a transformer protection relay in the MiCOM P40 Agile 5th Generation family with an integrated full color graphical HMI for single-line diagram control of the protected bay. The platform covers two and three-winding transformers (including auto-transformers) and supports up to five sets of 3-phase CT inputs. The relay incorporates differential, restricted earth fault (REF), thermal, overfluxing protection and backup protection for uncleared external faults. A transient bias technique provides high stability during external fault conditions and typically reduces CT knee point dimensioning by 25%. Current transformer supervision operates with or without voltage inputs and the CT matching factor is up to 20. The device includes 10 integrated function keys, tri-color LEDs, Current Loop analogue inputs [CLIO] and analogue outputs [RTD], and no internal batteries in GE Vernova-branded models. Communications and security features include a dedicated RJ45 Ethernet port for engineering access, optional single or dual redundant Ethernet for IEC 61850, Advanced IEC 61850 Edition 2.1 implementation, a secure data vault with 5000 events, 100 Fault records and over 1000s of Oscillography, NERC CIP cybersecurity, and Advanced Cybersecurity including AAA, Radius, RBAC, and Syslog. Harsh environment coating is standard for all GE Vernova MiCOM P40 relays and binary inputs are ESI48-4 EB2 compliant. Supported ANSI device numbers and related functions include 24, 27, 46, 47, 49, 50, 51, 52, 59, 67, 68, 89, 50BF, 50N, 51N, 51R, 51V, 59N, 64N, 67N, 81O, 81U, 87T, CLIO, CTS, LoL, PSL, RTD, TCS, Thru and VTS. The P64 MiCOM 5th Generation provides fast protection for transformer faults and helps preserve transformer service life by combining protection elements with asset health monitoring, including Loss of Life estimation according to the IEEE model. Adaptive measurement, alarm and trip techniques and integrated logging support scheduling of preventive maintenance based on cumulative service and recorded events. The relay also provides backup and logging of through faults and integrated backup overcurrent per winding or CT input, with optional directionalizing when fitted with a 3-phase VT; ordering the 3-phase VT permits full monitoring and measurement of power and energy quantities. GE Vernova describes the P64 models as a refurbishment solution offering functional match for MBCH and KBCH family transformer differential relays, sharing the same 4U rack mounting format and S1 Agile PC toolsuite compatibility.
