TORRI BD

Overview

The TORRI BD is a multi-stage Roots (booster) vacuum pump from Pfeiffer Vacuum designed to deliver high pumping speed in the medium-to-high vacuum range. It uses multiple synchronized Roots stages to compress and transfer gas from the process-side inlet to the backing-side outlet and is intended to run coupled with an external backing pump. Equipment-class technical characteristics: oil-free rotary compression using timed lobed rotors, continuous industrial-duty operation, modular/compact footprint for integration with backing pumps and vacuum systems, and mechanical components (rotors, bearings, timing gear) that require periodic inspection and service. Intended as a booster stage where additional throughput or lower pressures are required beyond what a single backing pump can provide — common applications include vacuum coating and deposition systems, vacuum furnaces and heat treatment, freeze-drying, large vacuum chambers in industrial R&D, and process lines in semiconductor and materials manufacturing. Typical installation practice places the TORRI BD between the process chamber and a rotary-vane, dry backing pump, or turbomolecular pump as part of a central vacuum station or local process skid; selection and configuration are driven by required pumping speed, target ultimate pressure, process gas compatibility and maintenance access for rotor/timing checks.
