Overview

Model 42143, Mold Hardness Tester C-Scale, part numbers AFS: #0042143, Metric: #0042143, Part Number: 0042143; intended for the sand casting process: Clay Bonded Sand. The tester begins reading in the 60–65 range and goes up to 100, and is described as designed for harder green sands. Mold hardness is measured as the resistance offered by the surface of a prepared sand mold to penetration by a loaded plunger; the instrument measures the depth of penetration of a plunger with a load applied at a 90-degree angle to the mold surface. The instrument is portable, lightweight and easy to operate, incorporates an LCD display that indicates the hardness number, and automatically records the maximum penetration value. Internal calibration is included, and power requirements are AAA Rechargeable NiMH Battery (battery charger not included); physical dimensions are Length: 4" / 102mm, Width: 2.5" / 64mm, Height: 1.25" / 32mm, Weight: 0.37lb / 0.17kg. The Basic Package includes Electronic Mold Hardness Tester, AAA Rechargeable NiMH Battery and Carrying Case; software functions include store and display date of last calibration and store and display username. The basic unit operates in Point to Point Mode allowing the operator to measure and record one mold hardness reading per test and the basic Electronic Mold Hardness Tester cannot store any data in memory; an advanced version, model 42143ADV, includes additional components for calibration and an infrared receiver assembly for digital download of stored data. This tester is used for assessing harder green sands and is useful only when sands consistently test at higher hardness values because it reads from the 60–65 range up to 100. In its Point to Point Mode the instrument allows an operator to measure and record one mold hardness reading per test and to display the resultant hardness value on the LCD for a defined time. The advanced model 42143ADV supports digital download of stored data via an infrared receiver assembly when that functionality is required.
