Overview

The AL800P is Sodick's largest EDM in the ALP Series with a novel construction and system that minimize thermal displacement to achieve higher-precision and faster machining of large parts and molds. It features a 4 Axis Linear Motor Drive System, Digital-PIKA-W Plus, Motion Controller, Barrel-Free Effect Control II, NC Device, TMP Control II, and a Windows Operating System. 4-Axis (XYUV) Linear Motor Drive: high-performance flat rigid linear motors developed and manufactured by Sodick are adopted for the four XYUV axes to maintain accurate axis movement with no backlash semi-permanently and provide high response and high tracking performance for accurate position control and excellent discharge characteristics. High rigidity construction is supported by ultra-precise roller guides and a machining fluid circulation system for major structural components, and a high-precision thermal compensation system with automatic temperature control by a high-performance inverter cooler minimizes thermal displacement; the Thermal Commit (TH COM) function senses component temperatures, provides diagnostic functions, and precisely corrects temperatures. The machine includes the latest SPW Power Supply NC Unit and new machining circuits with Digital-PIKA-W Plus, TMP control II, Barrel-free Effect Control II, a new tension servo function, automatic float control, and a vertical 19-inch touch panel screen, and Sodick offers a 10-Year Positioning Guarantee on its flat rigid linear motor driven Wire and Sinker EDMs. The AL800P is used for high-precision, faster machining of large parts and molds as stated by the manufacturer. It machines workpieces up to 49.21" x 40.16" x 9.45" (1250 x 1020 x 240 mm) and up to 3,307 lbs (1500 kg), and operates with wire electrode diameters .002" ～ .012" (0.05 ～ 0.30 mm) under 4-axis (XYUV) linear motor control.
