Overview

Automation unit is a robot cell for automated loading of components onto deburring machines, developed by LISSMAC in collaboration with J. Schmalz GmbH. Equipped with the ivOS Solution Kit Sheet Metal from Schmalz, consisting of AI software, intelligent gripper technology and 3D vision sensors, the system automatically recognizes sheet metal parts and generates the robot movements independently, without any programming knowledge. Flexible vacuum gripper control enables handling of parts with different geometries, the cell works with stacked or individually fed sheet metal parts, and large or heavy components can be inserted manually via a side flap. The Automation unit is used to detect, pick and load sheet metal parts into deburring machines and to transport stacked or individually fed parts to the deburring system. The solution is described as reducing manual workload and error rates while increasing efficiency, providing plug & play operation without programming knowledge, and enabling economical robot use for small batch sizes and high variance (high mix - low volume). The system can be retrofitted to existing machines, its AI robotics software is stated to continuously learn and automate approximately 95% of the parts spectrum, and a sheet separation function allows the robot to lift individual sheets via intelligent control, double-blank detection and a peeling-off effect.
