Baker WinTATS

Overview

Baker WinTATS is a traction armature quality control test system that integrates AC hipot, DC hipot, resistance, and surge testing into a single automated solution. The system uses an RST indexing stand and a rugged, custom-built armature test fixture to provide hands-free armature rotation and optical indexing for consistent test positioning. Resistance is measured using four-wire Kelvin measurements with temperature compensation corrected to 25°C, and surge testing uses Megger's patented Error-Area Ratio (EAR) method; AC hipot measures AC leakage current and DC hipot verifies leakage between windings and ground. The unit is ruggedised for demanding shop environments and reduces testing time to less than 18 minutes for up to 200 armature bars. Safety and power features include integrated interlock circuits, emergency stop controls, secure contact detection systems, secure grounding systems, and operation at 230V AC, 50/60 Hz, drawing 12A with built-in surge protection. Baker WinTATS is intended for motor manufacturers and rebuilders as a traction armature quality control test system used in manufacturing and rebuild operations. It supports a wide range of armature sizes, from small-scale components to large locomotive units, and streamlines production testing by eliminating manual positioning errors through automated indexing and hands-free rotation. Test results, including waveform analysis, resistance balance data, and test dates, are logged by Windows-based software and automatically stored in XML format for quality control tracking and informed maintenance decisions.
