Overview

Electric Envelope Kilns 2350F/Cone 11 is the UNIQUE Envelope Kiln design introduced more than three decades ago and is available in sizes up to 120 cubic feet; special sizes and larger units are available as custom models. The patented envelope design rolls on tracks to envelop ware placed on either of two stationary beds, providing completely accessible fixed beds that permit loading or unloading one bed while the other is being fired. Standard models are available for 2000F for lower decorating firing or 2350F for high fire, and the interior lining of walls, beds, and arch roof consists of high quality refractories and multilayer insulation rated to 2600F. Exterior construction is a rugged shell of welded steel plate reinforced with structural steel members and finished in heat resistant paint; doors are two swing type with covered observation ports, steel plate jambs and hinges, and heavy duty vise type door clamps. Heating coils/elements are distributed over walls, doors, and beds in flared-slotted grooves for uniform heating and long service life, and units are supplied with U.L. and F.M. listed electrical components, porcelain insulator feed throughs, heat resistant ultraboard terminal boards with heavy duty lug type wire connectors, and vented sheet metal terminal covers. Kiln supply includes two adjustable refractory lined steel dampers on the crown, two stationary beds with connecting track, and ball bearing V-groove track wheels mounted on the kiln, and the system is ready for operation after connection to the rated power supply in accordance with the instruction manual and kiln rating plate. Installation requires purchaser provisions including adequate kiln building and foundation with clear access, necessary electrical services and code-compliant utility connections, and hoods/stacks/vents in the building roof to exhaust waste heat and products of combustion. The kiln is used for firing ceramic articles and glass, with usual decorating temperatures attained in less than three hours. Standard use cases explicitly noted include lower decorating firing at 2000F and high-fire firing at 2350F, and the kiln can perform high temperature firing, sintering, or calcining with cycle times that depend on maximum temperature and loading. The fixed-bed envelope design and distributed heating coils provide rapid, uniform firing and permit fast turnaround, optimized setting density, minimum kiln furniture requirements, and low breakage losses for delicate materials, and firing schedules may be adjusted from one cycle to the next using the supplied single program, six ramps/six soaks programmable controller.
