Benchtop Four Ball Wear and EP Tester

Overview

Models K93170-PN and K93179-PN are offered as the Benchtop Four Ball Wear and EP Tester. The tester uses a 12.7 mm diameter upper ball that can rotate up to 2000 RPM while the lubricant can be heated up to 200 degrees C. An axial force up to 1000 kg is applied through servo-pneumatic close loop loading mechanisms and the loading control is software-based. Friction force is measured by a digital load cell mounted in a precise location, and the system measures lubricant temperature, normal load, friction force, coefficient of friction, and rpm with online data acquisition through an integrated PC and USB 3.0 data transfer. The unit includes an integrated 15 inch multi-touch control panel, accurate speed control via an AC servo motor, an integrated temperature control module, safety features for speed/temperature/load/friction force, and ships with accessories including Steel Balls 12.7 mm (set of 200), ball collets, ball port assemblies with heater, ball extractor/insert fixture, hand tools, data acquisition card and software, and calibration and test reports; electrical requirements are 440V, 50/60Hz or 220V, 50/60Hz and dimensions are WxDxH 20 x 24.6 x 35.4" (50 x 62.5 x 90 cm). The instrument is designed to determine the coefficient of friction of lubricants and to evaluate wear preventative (WP) and extreme pressure (EP) properties of lubricating oils and greases. It can be used to determine load carrying properties by the load wear index and the weld point method. The dynamic load control system combined with speed control can be used to understand Stribeck curve phenomena.
