Overview

NETZSCH Photo-DSC 204 F1 PhoenixAE Differential Photocalorimeter operates in a temperature range from -100°C to 200°C and features a gas-tight measuring cell with purge gas control regulated by a mass flow controller (MFC). The instrument is specified for use with open aluminium crucibles and can accept most standard industry or laboratory lamps for cationic or radically curing material systems. Lamp- and irradiation-related specifications include Max. Power values of 9.9W/cm2 and >10W/cm2, wavelength ranges of 280/315 nm to 500 nm and 280/320 nm to 500 nm (variable and extendable with various filters), irradiation times of 0.1 s to 1000 s and 0.2 s to 1000 s, existing orifice diameters of 8 mm, 4 mm, 2 mm, and lamp durabilities of 1500 h and 2000 h. The modified automatic lid-lifting device defines the distance between the two light conductors and the sample and reference to achieve high reproducibility, and for DSC analyses above 200°C a retrofit of the lid-lifting device or the manual lid can be used. The system runs under ProteusAE Software on WindowsAE; Proteus is licensed with the instrument, can be installed on other computer systems, and provides measurement and evaluation routines. Accessories and options described include compressed air cooling via compressor or central supply, an intracooler operating between -85°C and 600°C, a wide range of crucibles (aluminum, copper, silver, platinum, etc.), and the 3in1 Box supplied with the ConcavusAE pan. The Automatic Sample Changer (ASC) handles up to 192 crucibles/pans on two removable trays, accepts crucibles up to 8 mm Ø and 8 mm height, uses a four-needle gripper with adjustable gripping pressure, provides a fixed strip with 12 additional positions for calibration, offers crucible/pan recognition in flight and a crucible/pan and lid database, and includes an automatically controlled cover with integrated purge gas channels and an additional purge gas inlet for ASC use. The Photo-DSC 204 F1 PhoenixAE is described for measuring light-curing (crosslinking) reactions and for combined thermal and light curing applications, including dual-cure adhesives or paints. For paints and inks the instrument is recommended to be equipped with an OmniCureAE S2000 lamp, with measurement parameters such as exposure time and intensity programmable and monitored by segment via the ProteusAE software and luminous intensity calibratable with the Radiometer R2000. For high sample throughput or repeat measurements the Automatic Sample Changer (ASC) supports up to 192 samples and provides features for lid handling, purge gas control, crucible recognition and tray archiving, while test measurements above room temperature can use compressed air cooling or the specified intracooler.
