DWS wheel sets

Overview

DWS wheel sets perform rail transport, including for heavier loads, and are used to build complete travel units of driven and non-driven design. They are equipped with Demag offset and right angle gear motors from the modular range of industrial drives and are manufactured as series components offering a high level of functional reliability and ease of installation when the wheel is replaced. DWS wheel sets can be installed in hollow profile sections, box-section girders and used as corner-bearing travel units, and the entire wheel set can be installed without the need for complicated alignment in corner bearing arrangements. Complete configuration options include a torque bracket and CAD drawings are available in numerous formats to support the design process. Service and maintenance features include interchangeable distance washers for simple track gauge adjustment, a re-lubrication facility for extended service life, rapid installation and removal of the travel wheel using conventional tools, flange-wear indicators on flanged wheels, and flange bearings with recesses to attach extractors; wheel sets are also available without a flange bearing for direct connection to a corresponding prepared superstructure. Three sizes are offered with load capacities from 61,000 to 132,000 lbs (28,000 to 60,000 kg). The DWS wheel set is used to perform rail transport and to build complete travel units in driven and non-driven designs. It can be used in the crane and materials handling sector and related mechanical engineering solutions. Provided application examples include flange-guided DWS wheel sets for end carriages and crab travel units on a double-girder overhead travelling crane, wheel sets with lateral guide rollers driven by Demag offset geared motors on a double-girder overhead travelling crane, and an installation of eight DWS wheel sets with flanges on a 150-tonne double-girder overhead travelling crane.
