UPN‑01

Overview

UPN-01 is a Wire EDM machine featuring a unique horizontal wire drive system layout that enhances wire threading performance and is capable of reliably threading start holes as small as 30µm (0.001") diameter. It can operate with wire sizes ranging from 0.100mm (0.004") down to 15µm (0.0006") in diameter. The machine achieves sub-micron level accuracy using Pneumatic Static Pressure Guideways and Linear Motor motion technology to minimize mechanical friction and mechanical inertia. It uses a 0.01µm or 10 nanometer (0.0000004") scale feedback system, provides a minimum programmable increment of 0.1µm (0.000004") and is capable of achieving a mechanical movement roundness of 0.2µm (0.000008"). The UPN-01 uses an oil di-electric system that improves control of the machining spark gap and can achieve surface finishes down as low as 0.02µmRa (1µinRa). The entire work zone is enclosed and temperature controlled, and an integrated ultra-high precision rotary C-Axis achieves indexing accuracies of ±2 Arc Seconds (±0.00056 degrees) and facilitates automatic exchanging of the work piece. The machine can be equipped with an automatic slug ejection system. Control is Makino's universal Hyper i control with a 24" class HD touch-screen display and includes digital onboard electronic manuals, instructional training videos, and advanced process control functions. Work fixture dimensions are X: 160 mm Y: 160 mm Z: 50 mm (X: 6.3" Y: 6.3" Z: 1.9"). U-Axis: ±7 mm (±0.28") and V-Axis: ±7 mm (±0.28"). Maximum workpiece size is 150 mm x 150 mm x 40 mm Tall (5.9" x 5.9" x 1.6" Tall) with a maximum workpiece weight of 8 kg (17.6 lbs). Tank size is 275 mm × 430 mm × 330 mm (10.82 x 16.92 x 12.99). The UPN-01 provides ultra-precise machining and surface finish capability for small/fine wire operations and micro-machining applications. It is identified as ideal for producing components for fiber optics, electronic connectors, medical, miniature gear, and micro molding industries.
