Overview

The CWT Multi-Bal 5500 Balancing Machine is a balancing machine capable of balancing crankshafts and other rotating components. It preserves the best features of the Multi-Bal 5000 while adding new software and hardware updates. The unit includes a 23" wide-screen monitor with touch-screen controls and an intuitive user interface designed to drive the technician toward a solution, and it features a redesigned drill mounting system. The Multi-Bal 5500 is built on a 68" capable chassis that weighs between 4100 and 4350 pounds and uses a proprietary resin-based fill resulting in a resin-filled chassis in excess of 4000 pounds. Standard software and analysis features include Third Plane Analysis, HMVF (Heavy Metal Vector Forecasting), CWS (CounterWeight Shaping), and PDQ (Precision Drill Qualifying), and the machine is built in Norcross, Georgia, USA. The machine is intended to balance crankshafts and a range of other rotating parts, with the manufacturer noting applications such as balancing pumps, armatures, and roll pin shafts and broader industrial balancing applications. PDQ (Precision Drill Qualifying) is used to forecast a repair in terms of location, depth, and diameter (or amount and location of material to be added) before drilling so a technician can assess labor and customer cost before work is done. CWS (CounterWeight Shaping) assists a properly trained technician in shaving material from "cam ground" style counterweights to achieve balance, and HMVF (Heavy Metal Vector Forecasting) assists the technician in achieving balance to tolerance and in placing any residual imbalance on the ends 180 degrees out of phase to allow cancellation of residual excitation.
