ABF 8/28

Overview

ABF 8/28 is an ABF (afterburner ashing furnace) comprising a main combustion (ashing) chamber that accommodates a two-level sample basket and a separate afterburner chamber. Maximum temperature 800°C in the ashing chamber; chamber volume 28 liter; the afterburner is capable of burning 40 g carbon per batch. The unit includes 2 stackable sample baskets with a loading tray and tongs and a programmable EPC3016P1 temperature controller, with the afterburner temperature separately controllable up to 950°C. Heating elements are protected by a solid silicon-carbide sheath, a 3-phase supply is required, and Ethernet communication is provided. Airflow components described for the ABF 8/28 include: 1. air inlet (air preheats before entering the chamber); 2. air inlet to the afterburner to ensure complete combustion; 3. air inlet for gas cooling before entry to the exhaust fan; 4. chimney; 5. furnace chamber; 6. afterburner; 7. exhaust fan; 8. two stackable sample baskets. The ABF 8/28 is described as particularly suitable for ashing large quantities or samples that cause strong smoke generation, for example biomass samples. Its afterburner design introduces a large amount of fresh air into the afterburner chamber so that soot particles remaining in the main-chamber flue gas are burned.
