Smoke Box - DIN EN ISO 5659-2

Overview

Smoke Box - DIN EN ISO 5659-2 is designed to measure smoke generation and determine the density of smoke emission from exposed surfaces of specimens made of materials or composites. Specimens are exposed to thermal radiation of up to 50 kW/m2 generated by an electric cone heater, and the smoke emitted is held in the chamber for photometric determination of density; alternatively, a pilot flame burner can be used. The result of the smoke obscuration measurement is output as specific optical density. Specimen types supported include plastics, building products, solid materials of all kinds, paints and coatings, and liquids. Used for testing the fire behavior of building materials and for determination of the density of smoke emission in accordance with DIN EN ISO 5659-2. With an optional weighing module the mass-based optical density can be determined, and with an external FTIR spectroscope (not part of the device) the toxicity of smoke gases can be determined in accordance with IMO FTP CODE Annex 1, Appendix 2.
