Overview

The Super Hornet is McClean Anderson’s multi-axis filament winder described as affordable, compact and user-friendly for precision prototyping and production. It is presented for composite part development, prototyping or production environments and can be customized. The Super Hornet is driven by the Windows® based Ocelot machine control and SimWind pattern development software. Ocelot is a PC / PLC based machine control system; because the system is PC-based, users can develop and edit programs right at the control with SimWind even while winding. SimWind is an advanced offline software programming tool used for designing and modeling complex filament wound structures and can render winding simulations to analyze multiple winding scenarios in seconds. Spindle (Mandrel rotation, C-axis): Max diameter 760 mm [30″], max speed 175 RPM, max capacity 340 kg [750 lbs], number of spindles 1. Horizontal carriage (Z-axis): stroke options 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6m [39″ – 236″], max speed 1 m/sec [200 ft/min], max capacity 68 kg [150 lbs]. Cross-feed (X-axis): stroke 380 mm [15″], max speed 0.9 m/sec [180 ft/min]. Eye rotation (A-axis): stroke ± 180 degrees, max speed 150 RPM, inside eye diameter 115 mm [4.5″]. The Super Hornet is intended for composite part development, prototyping or production environments. Its Ocelot control with SimWind software supports part program development and editing at the control — including editing while winding — and SimWind provides winding simulation and modeling of complex filament-wound structures to analyze multiple winding scenarios.
