Overview
The RFDA HTVP1600 furnace is designed for impulse excitation measurements at elevated temperatures up to 1600 °C in air, inert, or reducing atmospheres. Measurements can be taken at predefined intervals during heating and cooling at 1-5 °C/min to determine elastic properties and damping as a function of temperature. The furnace chamber internal dimensions are 170 mm diameter by 180 mm height. Heating is provided by eight MoSi2 heating elements, insulation is Al2O3 (PCW), and furnace-wall cooling uses a water jacket. The system includes a rotary vane vacuum pump for controlled-atmosphere operation down to 1 mbar. Sample loading is top-hat style with capacity for one sample up to 120 mm long. The excitation system positioning is adjustable and the microphone position is fixed with three positions. Use the RFDA HTVP1600 for high-temperature RFDA / impulse excitation testing of ceramics, refractories, and other materials where elastic properties, damping, internal friction, phase transformations, or thermal shock behavior must be measured during controlled heating and cooling. IMCE examples include sintered silicon nitride internal-friction studies and refractory material measurements up to 1550 °C with a 30 minute hold.
