Baker WinAST

Overview

The Baker WinAST is an electric motor quality control system presented as a fully automated, semi-custom cabinet-style rack solution built to customer specifications for high-volume motor testing. It is designed to test fractional horsepower motors up to 5,000 hp for AC motors and up to 1,500 hp for DC motors and is reported to test thousands of motors daily. Test methods include AC/DC hipot, surge, resistance, and inductance testing; surge testing uses high-voltage impulse testing with waveform comparison and percentage-difference calculations. Hipot testing employs micro-arc detection for AC and DC and provides capacitive compensation that measures resistive current leakage rather than total leakage. Resistance and inductance measurements use Kelvin connections and temperature correction standardises resistance values to 25°C. The system utilises micro-arc detection technology to pinpoint insulation weaknesses and documents leakage currents, and it stores test parameters in a master "known-good" data file permanently on the system's hard drive so no master winding is required and operators do not need to set voltages or pass/fail limits between production runs. The user interface is Windows-based and menu-driven, test results export in XML format, and an optional high-voltage configuration can test motors over 500kW or more than 575V AC. Additional capabilities listed include field mapping for pole count verification, auxiliary relay matrices for different winding configurations, rotation-direction testing using induction and Hall-effect sensors, and safety switches, warning lights, and automatic interlocks; the product carries a limited one-year warranty and recalibration is recommended once annually or as needed. The Baker WinAST is intended for high-volume production quality assurance of electric motors, stators, windings, alternators, and similar assemblies to detect insulation weaknesses, turn-to-turn faults, connection problems, and winding imbalances and to prevent dead-on-arrival units and premature field failures. It is used on production lines where test parameters are preloaded from a master "known-good" data file so routine production testing can proceed without a master winding and without manual operator adjustments between motor models. Test data is exported in XML for integration with quality management and traceability systems and stored for review and trend analysis, and post-purchase provisions include onsite installation training plus recalibration, software updates, and technical support.
